Fried Okra



Serves 4

Ingredients & Prep: Estimated Time 10 Minutes​


  • 1 lb of okra ( wash, dry completely, and cut in half)

  • 1/4 of medium size onion diced into small cubes

  • 4 Garlic Cloves peeled and sliced thin

  • 1-2 teaspoons salt depending on preference

  • 2 Tablespoon Chili Flakes ( you can add more or less depending on your preference)

  • 5 Curry Leaves (optional)


Frying Okra: Estimated Time 20 Minutes

  • Heat a medium skillet or cast iron pan on medium heat for 5 minutes.

  • Add 1/4 cup of grapeseed oil, coconut oil, or olive oil.

  • Add cut okra into the oil. When adding okra make sure it is completely dry and flame is turned off to avoid oil splatter.

  • Fry the okra with seeds faced down for 5-7 minutes till they become crispy and golden brown

  • Flip all the okra to have the outer skin face down and fry for 3-5 minutes till it becomes golden brown.

  • Remove the okra from the oil and placed on a plate lined with a paper towel to soak excess oil.


Spice Prep: Estimated Time 10 Minutes 

  • Using the same pan, add the chopped onion and saute until golden brown for 5 minutes on medium heat.

  • Add sliced garlic and saute for a minute or 2.

  • Add the okra back in, along with the chilli flakes and salt.

  • Saute all the ingredients together for a few minutes.

  • Turn off heat and plate and serve!
